Mother and Daughter Reading in the Library

British Columbia’s Neighbourhood Learning Centres initiative is in the early stages of development. The Ministry of Education is consulting with stakeholder groups and beginning to consider and develop resources and tools for this initiative. This concept has connections to the concept of community schools.

There are many lessons to be learned, ideas to consider, and resources to be adapted from B.C.'s community schools, as well, from similar concepts in other Canadian provinces and other countries. The links below direct the reader to initiatives, resources and tools in other locations.

As you envision the concept of a Neighbourhood Learning Centre in your community, review these websites for ideas, research, tools and resources…

Perhaps you have developed a tool or resource that might be useful in the B.C. context or if you locate resources on these sites that are relevant to B.C.'s context, help us direct others to the materials by contacting the Neighbourhood Learning Centre staff at the Ministry of Education: NeighbourhoodLearningCentres@gov.bc.ca
